About Me

In real life most people call me Eli , but online I go by Draegon, Raetha, Feitae, or any number of other names. I'm a 26 year old computer geek.

Spent two years at the University of Vermont, where I was studying theatre and computer science. UVM was pretty screwed up, both the college and my mental health, so I left when I got a full time job offer from my summer employer, Vicinity, to do systems administration, which was similar to the network administration I had been doing as an intern.

Worked with Vicinity for nearly three years when the evil empire (Microsoft) stormed in, shook up the place, and ran with the goods. Stormed in being bought out, shook up the place being laid my ass off, and ran with the good being took our customers. It kinda sucked, but I got over it when they offered me a job back four months later.

Microsoft was an interesting place to work. I was only a contractor, which was kinda lame, but all in all I was treated ok because I was working with mostly the same people from Vicinity. The pay was decent, and the free access to software and toys was pretty sweet. Would not have minded staying on there at all. Except of course that they shut the local office down in 2005. C'est la vie.

After my contract ran out with MS I ended up with Medical Metrx Solutions. They are a medical imaging company that converts CT/MRI/Xray scans into 3D images. Most of the time I'm considered a systems administrator or network administrator, but I've tossed in a little bit of development work and what I always push for systems engineer/architect. Lately the development work has been taking a sizable chunk of time, and I've been enjoying it, we'll see if I end up shifting career paths sometime.

My favorite pastimes are skiing/snowboarding, computer tech work, technical theatre work for musicals and plays, reading fantasy and science fiction, and taking exotic vacations.

Favorite authors are ridiculously numerous, but include David Eddings, Stephen King, J. R. R. Tolkein, Michael Crichton, Tad Williams, Orson Scott Card, C.S. Lewis, Ursula K. LeGuin, Robert A. Heinlein, and Anne McCaffrey.

I've traveled around the US, including a cross country road trip. Have also been to Germany, France, Turkey, Caribbean Islands, and Hawaii.

This blog is my attempt at a web presence, and proof that I'm completely insane. I hope you enjoy the contents, or at least find them interesting or insightful. Please feel free to leave as many comments of any nature as you like.
